LUKE 5

Aloha ya'll, what a beautiful sunny Monday morning! Marge & I have a day of preparation & packing today and then off to Hong Kong at 3:30 tomorrow morning. We're so excited for this trip!

As I continue on with the 5 minute challenge I realize some may not be aware of what the challenge is, so look back at Captain Aloha's FB page for details in an earlier post. Any questions let me know. This challenge can honestly change your life & the way you deal with people & the world. No gimmicks, no fake promises, just God's Holy Word, the Holy Spirit that lives within believers & an open heart...that my friends is the power of God's Word if you make it a regular part of your life.

This morning in Luke 5:1-11 Jesus calls the first three disciples in a compelling way. The calling of the disciples always amazes me as we often hear of people saying "God called me" or "I've been called to missions" and for those not called we wonder what this looks like. It's right here in God' Word.

I know from personal experience that when God calls He prepares your heart beforehand. I always say that if you first make yourself available to God He will then use you in an amazing way. The first step is to make your heart available to Him...that means selling out 100%, holding nothing back. I've heard it said that God often asks you to jump before He gives you the parachute...a silly request of course, only possible with faith & trust in our all knowing Lord. For Marge & me, after this step of obedience, God called.

When we were at Fuge youth camp with Village Baptist 3 weeks ago in Mobile, Alabama, the pastor brought a week long series about God simply wanting your yes. When God does call all He wants is your yes. If you say yes, He will be calling again soon and the requests usually grow in scope and sacrifice. All God wants is your yes & satan will make sure there are plenty of disctractions & obligations in your life to make your yes seem impossible.

When Jesus finds Peter (Simon), James & John they had been fishing unsucessfully all night. This stranger, Jesus, whom they've never met propmts them to drop their nets again and out of obedience to the Lord they do. They catch so many fish it is breaking their nets and sinking their boats! Jesus uses something so common as catching alot of fish to get their attention and confirm their yes. Once we are odebient, God can & will use simple events in our lives to get our attention & call us. Once back on shore they walk off from their boat, their jobs, their families, their income, their homes, their possessions, their comfort and their complacency and simply say yes & follow Jesus. WOW. They must have been scared to death & had a 1000 questions but they just simply walked with Jesus.

What Jesus asks of us will make no sense. I'm sure these three men's families, friends & customers all thought they were crazy. But God is God and His plan is always perfect. Let God be the God of your entire life today and guide your steps down the path of His perfect plan.

Give God your yes.

Praise God for His goodness in your life today!
